Lives and works in Mexico.
Cristina Ochoa explores the crossovers of ecology, feminism, mysticism, and critical inquiry.
Central to her inquiry is the Pharmakon—an ongoing investigation into substances that occupy the precarious boundary between medicine and poison. Ochoa’s aesthetic is one of archival depth and biopolitical restoration, utilising site-specific interventions to breathe life into “knowledge on the verge of extinction.” By re-contextualising botanical records from historical manuscripts and sacred texts into tactile, immersive environments, she prompts a fundamental reassessment of our ecological dependencies. Her work functions as a sensory bridge, connecting the architectural permanence of the museum with the ephemeral, shifting frequencies of the natural world, ultimately advocating for a decentralised, more empathetic understanding of the environment.
