Elliot Dodd operates at the visceral intersection of technological accelerationism and the hyper-masculine ego. His practice functions as a semiotic deconstruction of contemporary “man-body” archetypes, interrogating how the pervasive currents of global capital and digital consumerism colonise human desire. Through a methodology of “reformed realities,” Dodd subjects the rigid iconography of authority—luxury car aesthetics, corporate branding, and ballistic hardware—to a process of material liquefaction, rendering them as turgid, rubbery, and unapologetically flaccid forms.
Dodd occupies a unique position in the contemporary landscape as a rare virtuoso of both emerging technologies and classical media. He seamlessly bridges the gap between the algorithmic and the handmade, utilising 4K digital rendering and Virtual Reality with the same fluid mastery he applies to traditional paper. By employing a sublime academic precision in his drawing to depict “childish” phallic absurdities, he weaponises technical craftsmanship to ridicule the untraceable nature of inherited patriarchal violence. Ultimately, Dodd’s work offers an astute, often humorous, critique of the invisible power networks that underpin the sociopolitical architecture of the 21st century.
