“Notes For a Shared Space” marked the opening of Temporary Art, a complementary space of Somers Gallery.
Across abstraction and conceptual approaches, earth-led and atmospheric painting, and practices rooted in memory, intimacy, and place, the exhibition approached the idea of a “shared space” as a working condition shaped by proximity and the negotiation of time.
Foregrounding process as part of the work, it brought together the kind of working material that usually stays in a studio: works in progress alongside sketches and traces of creative exchanges. Shaped by the varied geographies and practices, the space was used in different working rhythms, sometimes overlapping, sometimes at a distance, while staying in touch throughout. What emerged was a collective attempt to articulate the possibility of a shared toolkit for conviviality.
“Notes For a Shared Space” proposes coexistence as a curatorial method, making room for productive friction and quiet resonances between the artists’ practices.
