Somers Gallery is pleased to present Ricky M Electric Stars on Fire, a new exhibition, bringing together video, sculpture, and print, this ambitious body of work has been developed over the past five years and marks a significant evolution in the artist’s multidisciplinary practice.
Born in Folkestone in 1984, Richie Moment lives and works in the Kent afterrelocating from London. His work explores themes of visibility, technology, and the shifting structures of contemporary life, often operating at the crossroads of satire and process. Moment completed a Postgraduate Diploma at the Royal Academy Schools (2017) and holds a BA (Hons) in Fine Art from the University of the West of England (2013).
Ricky M Electric Stars on Fire presents a deep dive into experimental processes across video, print and sculpture. Harnessing the failings of different media to create new messages to be sent out into the world. The exhibition invites audiences to consider the importance of not really caring.
The development of this new body of video works has been supported by Screen South, where Moment was selected as a 2025–26 Showcase Artist. This programme supports artists working with digital and moving image practices through a project-led approach that fosters new ideas, audience engagement, and the realisation of ambitious work. Through access to technical resources, studio support, and critical dialogue, Screen South has played a pivotal role in enabling the artist to expand both the conceptual and technical scope of the exhibition.
His practice is underpinned by a strong commitment to public engagement and curatorial work. He is the curator of The Resident Platform, a permanent public art programme in Folkestone (2021–present), and has previously curated projects including CHUMMING for Glasgow International (2018) and Bearing Liability at Strange Cargo Gallery (2017).
His work has been widely exhibited in the UK and internationally, including presentations at the Royal Academy of Arts, the Institute of Contemporary Arts, Bluecoat, and the Museum of Contemporary Art Taipei, alongside exhibitions in Vienna, Taipei, Las Vegas, and Dortmund.
Ricky M Electric Stars on Fire represents a compelling new chapter in his practice, positioning him as a distinctive voice in contemporary art. The exhibition stands as a testament to the importance of sustained artistic development and collaborative support structures in enabling artists to realise ambitious, forward-thinking work.
